From Sea Waste to Soil Wonder
Give your plants a natural upgrade with Shell on Earth's crushed whelk shells, carefully washed and dried before being packed into a fully recyclable, hand-tied paper bag. Each bag contains approximately 1kg of shells, sustainably sourced as a by-product from Jordan & Caryl Andrews family’s seafood processing business on the west coast of Wales.
These beautifully textured shells make a striking decorative top dressing for indoor plant pots and terrariums, adding a coastal, organic finish while supporting plant health. Perfect for cacti, succulents and most houseplants, they also work beneath the surface—helping to improve drainage and soil aeration when mixed into compost. Their coarse texture creates an effective barrier against fungus gnats too, making them as practical as they are attractive.
By choosing their whelk shells, you’re helping to reduce waste from the UK fishing industry, where an estimated 5,000 tonnes of shells are discarded every year—turning what would be waste into something genuinely useful.
As a natural product from the sea, Shell on Earth take care to remove any foreign material, though occasional traces may remain. Due to their porous nature, the shells may carry a light aroma at first, which typically fades within a day of exposure to air and does not affect their performance.
